Test protocol
The Shoulder Shrug Sign is an observational sign: the patient compensates for an arm elevation they cannot achieve by elevating the whole scapula or shoulder girdle. Jia et al. (2008) evaluated it in 982 patients undergoing shoulder surgery: it is common in conditions involving stiffness (glenohumeral arthritis, frozen shoulder) and in massive rotator cuff tears.
