Objective
The Ankle Ligament Reconstruction-Return to Sport after Injury (ALR-RSI) is adapted from the ACL-RSI score, in which the term “knee” has been replaced by the term “ankle.” This scale quantifies psychological readiness prior to returning to sport following ankle ligament reconstruction.² ³
Interpretation
The score ranges from 0% (lowest level of psychological readiness) to 100% (highest level of psychological readiness).²
Execution
The ALR-RSI contains 12 items, covering emotions (5 items), confidence in performance (5 items), and risk assessment (2 items). It uses an 11-point Likert scale in the form of checkboxes ranging from 0 to 10.¹ ² ³
A total score is calculated as follows: ALR-RSI score total × 100 / 120 = .......%
Duration
Approximately 2 minutes.¹
Equipment
None.
Clinical Value
The ALR-RSI is a valid and reliable tool; it shows excellent reproducibility (ICC = 0.92) and excellent internal consistency, with a Cronbach’s alpha of 0.96.³
A combination of the Foot and Ankle Ability Measure (FAAM) and the ALR-RSI would be the most relevant way to assess patient function in the context of chronic ankle instability.⁴
