Iliotibial band syndrome (ITBS) is a common injury among runners. In terms of prevalence, it comes second only to patellofemoral pain syndrome, periostitis, and on a par with plantar fasciitis (Kakouris et al., 2021).
However, the scientific literature remains poor regarding the treatment of this condition. In recent years, evidence has grown regarding its pathophysiology and biomechanics, allowing for better comprehension of this condition.
In this module, we will review the pathophysiology and biomechanics of ITBS, the elements enabling a relevant assessment to be carried out as well as the strategies and treatment options suggested, among others, in the latest guidelines (Geisler et al., 2020).
