Description
Sit on a chair facing a wall, with your knees touching it. Place your hands behind your head, fingers interlaced, and point your elbows forward. Then bring your elbows against the wall and apply light pressure, as if you were trying to bring your arms closer to your body in this position. Start by gently moving your sternum toward the wall to create an extension in your upper back. To accentuate the movement, take a breath and then, as you exhale, let your rib cage move a little closer to the wall to increase the opening of your chest. Then slowly return to the starting position and repeat the exercise, following your breathing and your physical therapist's instructions.
