Description

Set up on a Smith machine or a leg extension machine. If you do not have one, simply place a weight above your knee. Then slide a small, firm ball or a larger ball under your heel, so that your foot is already angled toward the floor. The goal is to lift your heel off the ball by pushing hard with the first ray, that is, your big toe, which you should make as stiff as possible. Hold the contraction for at least 5 seconds, or as directed by your physical therapist.
